There is a warm spell in Toronto this week and I make it a priority to get out and about. It’s fun to walk around with a light coat on in March. Of course, it’s worrisome when I consider the planet, but I am still able to accept and enjoy the unseasonably warm weather.

This week, musicians were busking on the Danforth. I even saw a woman eating an ice cream cone. It reminded me that when we are adaptable, we spot opportunities. When we can adjust to new conditions, we are fully engaged in what’s going on. We can maximize what’s available to us.

Only a few musicians thought about busking, so they got the coins. I hadn’t thought about getting an ice cream cone, but when I saw it, I knew that I wanted one too! But where do you buy an ice cream cone in March?

We must stay alert to opportunities that present themselves. Instead of looking for speed bumps ahead, keep our eyes peeled for opportunities. We need to look around to get creative. Spot things that others don’t see.

Do you know the story of Betty Nesmith? In l951, Betty was a secretary who realized that the electric typewriter seemed to multiply typing errors. She concocted a mixture of water-based paint and a coloring agent that matched paper. Soon everyone wanted to use Betty’s correction fluid. By l956, she quit her bank job and sold the fluid full time.

In l979, Gillette bought her Liquid Paper Corporation for 47.5 million dollars. The sole heir to her fortune was her son, Michael Nesmith, leader of the 60’s rock group THE MONKEES. I remember them well.

What other opportunities are right under our noses? What lemon could we turn into lemonade? What do we need to add to make life delicious? That is our lifelong challenge. I can’t wait to hear how we each meet the challenges we face on the micro and macro levels in our lives.

On April 24th, we have an exciting line up for ‘Spoken Lives’. Four wonderful women will share five stories. Yes – Val Braithwaite will share two stories! Please check out the story summaries on Eventbrite. Hope to see you there! It will be a memorable evening.

Do you want to learn how to curate and host a fantastic series to raise your profile?

After curating Spoken Lives for 7 years, I want to share the business layer of having your own series. I have developed an online course to teach others how to Plan, Launch and Earn with their own Speaker or Storytelling Series. Sharing our stories can be a powerful way to heal ourselves and others.

I’ll be launching this course, Your Applause Academy from Grow At Your Pace, soon and sending out a notice so you will be the first to know about this important step in my new journey. Please subscribe by clicking the button below to be added to the Grow at Your Pace Newsletter.
