We celebrated Razie Brownstone’s 100th birthday last night with a live jazz band at the Tranzac Club in Toronto. Her family did a fabulous job! They got photos of her blown up that were on display around the club and 80 people were there to celebrate this remarkable woman. They even got a letter from King Charles!
Razie was dancing up a storm and shining brightly. She’s a very agile woman, fully capable and lives alone in her own home. Her children and grandchildren told funny stories about her. To sum it up – she’s a very good listener. They also felt that she’s a low maintenance woman who loves ice cream! She’s a blast to be with and, from young to old, (everything is relative) everyone loves spending time with Razie!
Some of you might remember her from a live interview we did at a Spoken Lives event last year. I also wrote a blog post about visiting her in Newfoundland in 2020.
This month, I finished a short film about her life with Leah Meddaoui and Kwasi Kyei. She shares some of her wisdom and you can watch it here. I did five interviews with her over the stretch of a year and we think it captures her sparkling personality and zest for life. Kwasi shot the footage and Leah put it together with a keen eye to the story line and added some lovely details. I’m thrilled to have worked with each of them on this passion project.
Celebrating Spring
It’s almost here! Those early spring flowers are blooming in my neighborhood. I’m hearing more birds these days – have you heard them? The weather still comes and goes, but we’re headed in the right direction.
I do plan to do some spring cleaning now that the film is released. Next, I’ll attend a dozen films at the Hot Docs Festival (April 24-May 4th). I love this Festival for independent films!
Then, I’ll turn my attention back to my new book. Brave New Endings is shaping up to be a good read. I look forward to opening this conversation with folks! If you are on Instagram or Facebook, please follow to hear some ‘on the street’ interviews from my travels and learn some heart-healing exercises that will support you in getting through past hurts. Search ‘Brave New Endings Book’ on Instagram or Facebook. Thanks! I really need some followers. Please share with your friends. I really appreciate it.
